Unable to add comment in properties

Post by chzuck »

I am unable to add anything to the comment box under image under properties. Is there something I need to turn on? I am using Windows XP Home with SP3.

Be very careful with Edit Comment, as it requires you to re-save your image file.

If you don't have "Keep original date/time attributes" checked in your Save or Save As dialogs, adding a comment via Edit Comment and then clicking File>Save will change the modification date of your JPEG file. You may not care about that either way, but your folders will definitely sort differently than you may recall them doing in Windows Explorer when sorted by date.

I always find myself stopping short of adding a JPEG comment in Xnview; I find the safer way to do it is to invoke Exiv2's -k option via Cygwin, MinGW/MSYS, or some other console or terminal. Even writing a list of file names and comments in a text editor is preferable to having their mod dates change on me. Maybe I'm just too particular?
