I want to use XNView's batch mode to "clean" my greyscale scans. These are written notes on dirty,non-white paper or photocopied with too dark setting.
Turning contrast up gives good results but tends to make the lines too tall and look oversharped...
What are the recommended XNView picture operations for this task?
How to clean greyscale scans?

Re: How to clean greyscale scans?
IMHO the only way to find it out is "try and error". There are so many technical and personal criteria to consider that it is nearly impossible to give a standard recipe. Sometimes a good way is to scan it again with other settings.

Re: How to clean greyscale scans?
Try it out in regular xnview first, then you can see the results of your attempts in realtime. Then take your best results & batch process them.
What I find tends to be the best method to clean up greyscale/scanned images is to tinker with the levels. (Images->adjust->levels, or just "L".) You will usually see a clumb of large peaks at each end, pull the sliders down past these large clumps of peaks & you will usually get a good result. Play around a bit to find the best settings.
