0.39 win-x86: Photo DISTORTION under MP's sized-window

Hello,

I cannot explain the technical term for this 'indexed' color distortion but I have indeed noticed this same distortion before with other super high-resolution images, particular with high-res images that have been sourced from a scanner.

Right, so the photo preview display's with the evident distortion in both XnView MP and XYplorer's 'preview' as seen here:

Ahhh :P :?: But I cannot see any of the same distortion whatsoever when I view with Windows 7's native image viewer:

So issue must be explainable to the least if not fixable immediately...Or perhaps there is a setting in XnView MP that I have overlooked no/yes?

Here is the same Hi-res photo image seen above in the screenshots for anyone to test
(5.7 MB):

Thank you for reading. :o

What you see are Moiré pattern artifacts. The picture was obviously scanned from a print magazine without activated descreen filter.

Setting High zoom quality in Tools » Settings... » View to Reduce & Enlarge should smooth things out.

Thank you Xntriq for this information.

Yes I have noticed this with many of my scanned magazines/newpapers but have never heard of this "Descreen" information to look out for.

So this topic is not a bug and should to another sub-forum...
