MP 0.48 WinXP: Restore from minimize very slow

Post by JohnFredC »

To reproduce:
  • 1. Start MP.
    2. Open the Browser on a folder of images.
    3. Minimize MP.
    4. Do other tasks: surf the web, start applications, normal computer stuff.
    5. After a few minutes...
    6. Restore MP.
    7. Observe lengthy restoration period, including unresponsive "white out" effects.
The longer MP remains minimized, the longer the restore delay. If you leave it minimized for a day, it is more efficient to close the MP window and restart.

My system has 2GB RAM and is not memory constrained during the period that MP is minimized.

Hi Pierre

Yes, most of the time. It seems (perhaps) to be related to:

1. Whether the active tab is the Browser.
2. How many thumbs are displayed.
3. How long MP has been minimized.

Sorry I cannot be more specific. Very busy here and need some time for a controlled experiment.

No Pierre, sorry. :(

I just use MP for a while, then minimize. After a period (up to a day, or more) restoring it generates an empty window frame and sometimes more than five minutes of disk activity.

This behavior was present in the 0.39, also.

Note there are no similar issues with XnView Legacy (nor any other program). It is always responsive upon restore.

I'll keep watching for modalities.

I have experienced this same exact issue John is writing about but it is hard to create reproduce steps for it.
