Request: Reuse view of same directory

Post by budz45 »

Hi,

As the user Zungao on this forum nicely suggested here: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 15#p103782

It would be very useful to have a setting that would be able to re-use an already opened View tab for any newly opened file that is from the same folder.

Only for files of the same parent folder, so sub-folders not included.

This would be most useful for when a Folder has lots of pictures (thousands) and a user is scrolling through the folder opening random pictures for not wanting each picture to open in new different tabs...Remembering that they are from the same folder. Useful also for folder sets like a gallery of photos per folder.

I request a tickbox setting named:
"Reuse view of same directory"

this tickbox option would go suitably under Settings>Interface.

this proposed feature is much similar to the existing "Multiple view for same file" feature.

Right, 'Keep view' for tabs is a feature that just recognizes the Folder path of an image file being opened and would match the folder path to an existing view tab of that same folder path (it re-uses the same tab instead of opening a new tab).

It only applies to new opening of image files, when opening from Browser, Recent Files, System (e.g. Windows Explorer).

This feature would not apply to Drag & Drop to Viewer. So drag & drop will work as normal whether this feature is enabled or not, drag & drop of files to XnViewMP view interface wont be affected.

This requested setting would have to work with the "Maximum view tabs" setting

Restoring a 'Session' in XnViewMP would have no affect on this setting. Sessions in XnViewMP should restore independently.

This feature might require a restart of XnViewMP to safely work. Which means the program 'restart' prompt would warn user.
