Random file in directory

I really would love to use XnView for more reasons than to just look at an apng or an occasional gif file (irfanview stubbornly refuses to support the former and often has problems properly displaying the latter), but it leaves me a little confused why there hasn't been a random image option yet (a la irfan's ctrl+m). I've noticed there were some topics from 2004 or so, but nothing's really came up since then.

when you use 'Next file'?

That would bring me to the next file in order (unless I'm missing something). I was hoping for a way to skip the order process when browsing images (instead of going from image 1 -> 2 -> 3 I instead get something like image 1 -> 45 -> 31 -> 08, etc.).
