Problem displaying images Photoshop Firefox, acdsee, etc.

Post by jazzz »

Hello,

I just started using xnview and I love it but I noticed that images don't look in xnview like they look on photoshop, bridge, firefox, acdsee. Firefox, bridge and acdsee display the images just like I created them in photoshop but in xnview they look a little darker and sharper. I have tried enabling and disabling icc embedded profiles, gamma correction, Hight Quality zoom. But nothing makes a difference. It happens specially when the image has an Adobergb profile, srgb does it also but it is less noticeable.

Also CR2 images look less saturated than they do in photoshop.

Any idea?
Thank you!

Well, it actually happens with 100% of the pictures whether I created them in Photoshop or downloaded them, but it is more noticeable for some pictures than others. This is a picture where the problem is very noticeable, see how it looks sharper and specially darker in xnview than it does in other programs, specially Photoshop. Please download it from this link:

I don't see a difference with PS3, when you enable ICC in XnView, do you reload the file?

Hi, thank you for you answer.

Yes I reload the image, I have also rebooted the system, re-calibrated my monitor but still I see the difference, photoshop is not even necessary for this. You can try with the last version of firefox. Pay attention to the darker areas close to the edges of the image. In xnview they look almost black and you can't see detail. but in firefox you can see some grey and detail. Try full screen in both xnview and firefox. Maybe if you raise the brightness of your monitor a little to test it.

This should help better, please try with these 2 images that are specially prepared for this test. argb and srgb. it happens with both of them.

Sure, here they are, sRGB and aRGB.

Again, you might need to raise your brightness a little in order to see it better, it is more noticeable for the sRGB.

Do you have entered the profile of your monitor in option>General>Icc?

Hello,

I entered the profile of my monitor, there are 2 parts: where it says 'very slow' and 'other'. Not sure which one I should choose but I tried both one at a time and also both at the same time, no difference. Then I decided to give a generic srgb profile to my monitor and added it to xnview, nothing happened until a day later I rebooted and then I don't see a difference with firefox and also other pictures that had the same problem in photoshop look the same now. At this point I removed the monitor profile from xnview and from the system, things are still good.

So most of the problem has gone, except with a couple of black and white images like the one you can see in this message, it only happens with the argb profile and only in photoshop. So apparently there was an issue with my system or my monitor. I am buying a new monitor next week and will see if this image still shows a difference or maybe it is just Adobe.

Thank you for your help.
