Scroll follows mouse mode.

Post by oclambo »

Cdisplay has a cursor move mode called "Follow Mouse" in which the image scrolling (horizontal and vertical) follows the mouse movement in inverted fashion.
For instance: If you move the mouse up it scrolls the image downwards, likewise if you move the mouse left it would pan the image right. All this without needing to sustain and hold a mouse button.

Overall it's quite similar to an inverted middle mouse button "scroll mode" seen in most web browsers and without the annoying cursor arrows/indicators. It feels much more intuitive then it sounds.

Basically I would like to see such a feature in Xnview:
At a button press Xnview would enter a "scroll follows mouse mode" wherein the image follows and moves along with the mouse in inverted fashion (as mentioned above) until the button is pressed again to toggle it off.

Thanks!

Hmm, perhaps "Grabbing" is what you mean:
1. Open an image in XnView
2. Zoom into the image so that you see scrollbars.
2. Right click on the image and keep right mouse button pressed --> mouse cursor will change to a hand.
3. Move the mouse up, down, left, or right (right mouse button still pressed). --> The image will be scrolled in the direction you move the mouse.

It's a slightly different paradigm to the current grabbing/dragging.
Instead of having to hold down a mouse button you simply click or press a key to turn/toggle the ability to grab 'on/off'.
Once in this 'grab' mode it's as if you are always holding down the mouse button (without actually doing so) and any movement you make with the mouse moves the image as if you were.

Sorry for not replying earlier. I understand your point, you speak of a grab mode which is switched on/off (there would be no need to keep the right mouse button pressed.). Personally, I find modes tend to make things confusing, but why not offer this ability in addition to the current behaviour?

From what I can see there is a very similar request:
- Grabhand in toolbar
