Lost an image, should not have happened

Post by JeanGoulet »

Been using Xnview for a long time, and recommending it to a lot of people. But the following situation should not have happened, and corrections are needed to prevent it.

1. Had image 1, renamed it fast to "greatimage1" and hit enter.
2. Had image 2, renamed it fast to "greatimage1" and hit enter twice (hmm, was that a popup? Too late, it's gone)

3 - Realized something is wrong: thumbnails are showing both images WITH THE SAME NAME (even though that's "impossible").

4- Hit ctrl-Z (expecting Undo) but got nothing
5- Went to see File/Edit looking for Undo (but got nothing)
6- Went to see Recycle Bin (and got NOTHING)

7 - Realized Xnview has wiped out my file and FAILED TO SAVE IT in the Recycle Bin as specified in Options - General - File Operations where the checkmark is activated for "Delete to Recycle Bin".

Really not happy.

So what happened at step 2 was that my intention was to rename it to greatimage2, but mistyping one character followed F2 then enter, lead to the message "do you want to overwrite it". I figured that was referring to a filename being overwritten, and in any case if I was wrong, I could undo or use the recycle bin. But nooooo, Xnview v1.99.6 was really drastic and made me pay dearly for my "assumptions" on how Windows applications are supposed to react.

My requests are:
- step 3 is a bug because we just can't have two identical filenames on different images. Should do as Windows Explorer, it prevents it and says "already exists. Specify a different file name".
- steps 4 / 5 are missing features found in all good software.
- step 6 should have worked in the first place as specified in step 7

Hello,
Which MP version? which OS ?

Code: Select all

1. Had image 1, renamed it fast to "greatimage1" and hit enter.
2. Had image 2, renamed it fast to "greatimage1" and hit enter twice (hmm, was that a popup? Too late, it's gone)
Strange, here, I do not have this behavior.
XnViewMP Linux X64 - Debian - X64
