More automation: Watched folders, automatic start
There are so many great tools and functions within XnConvert. Are they are plans to add more automation?
For example:
Hot Folder/Watched folders. Being able to drop images into a folder set to certain presets and have the images convert automatically would be ideal.
Auto Start. Have another application launch XnConvert when it is finished processing an image and have XnConvert start automatically. Currently images just go into a queue until the convert button is pressed.
Thanks.

Re: More automation: Watched folders, automatic start
If I understood right the idea is to have XnConvert running (in the background) and watching specific folders. Whenever the user or an application saves a new file in that folder XnConvert will detect the new file and start a specific action, e.g. convert that new file into a specific format or performa some other action. Right, Thorsted?
A second way this might work:
Application A runs and places files in one or several folders. When exiting application A starts XnConvert and XnConvert will detect the new files in the observed (hot) folders and start a previously defined action.

Right.
Either have a watched folder XnConvert polls at a time interval and executes an action once it finds a new image. Or have an image open in XnConvert and auto start an action.

Re: More automation: Watched folders, automatic start
In XnConvert version 1.65 you find a button "Hot Folders" at the "Input"-Tab.
I chose a folder with this "Hot Folder" button and set all other necessary things, like output …
Afterward, I saved as a script, closed and restart XnConvert. All settings are restored from script like desired.
Manually adding images for converting is working.
But if I copy an image-file to the hot-folder nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong? Do I have so setup something in addition, some trigger or so?
Thanks, in advance

Thanks in advance

Yes, I have the same question.
I am running XnConvert version 1.65 on Windows 7 - 32bit
I can manually add a file/s or a whole folder and click convert successfully however if I add a hot folder and add the same files to that hot folder nothing seems to happen?
Could this possibly be a bug or is there some sort of configuration I have missed?
Thanks
P.S. I get the same symptoms/issue when I attempt the same on Linux Mint, XNConvert 1.65

Re: More automation: Watched folders, automatic start
Right, there is a bug when watched folder has subfolder, and if files added are < 10
See Issue 488 for current status and details.

Re: More automation: Watched folders, automatic start
Thank you very much for the reply.
It is reassuring to hear there is a bug as I thought I was going crazy
So as I read it, this issue will be resolved in the next version which is 1.69?
To clarify, when 1.69 is released it will be possible to drop a single file into the Hot Folder and it will be detected and converted as per output options?
Thanks again

Hi,
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by drop on hot folder button?
I've used Hot Folders in other applications and my understanding of how it would work is...
Specify a hot folder for XnConvert to monitor...

Then in the output settings you can specify the output folder and format (PDF in this case)...

Once configured I should then be able to copy a file into the Hot Folder and it will be automatically processed as per the output settings.

Having the exact same problem, and it is the only thing keeping me from singing the praises of this elegant piece of work from the top of every mountain. I hope the .69 version is forthcoming, and that the problem is solved, because it is the only barrier to perfection. Thanks, Pierre!

Ha ha, you are a genius, I just tried it again and it worked! Now all I need is a way to have the program open automatically on startup and load the conversion script. Hooray!
