Enhancing the usability in Compare windows - Selections

Post by m.Th. »

There are two Compare windows:

One invoked by Tools | Compare...

and one which is the result of Tools | Search for Similar files...
Duplicates-Compare.jpg

With the first one, even if it correctly selects the current item using the standard XnView'MP way, one cannot see which are the files which are in the comparing panes. Hence we need another 'kind' of selection for the thumbs in order to show which photos we're comparing. Something like the one which is now in the 'Find similar files' window.

But the big problem is in the 2nd one: One cannot mark multiple selected photos (especially an entire folder) for deletion/move/copy etc. This is a critical feature because usually there are entire photo reports (or great parts of them) which are duplicate, hence a button called 'Select the duplicates from the Same Folder'. Look how AntiTwin has the 'Selection by folders' workflow:

Hence we need in the 'Find similar files' some improvements:
  • A 'Selection by folders' workflow
  • Draw the current file using the 'normal' XnViewMP drawing engine for the current/selected file
  • Draw the files which are to be deleted in a different 'kind' of selection (perhaps in the way in which is now drawn the 'selected' file?)
  • Add a way to adjust the thumbnail's size! They are too small! (same stands in the Batch Convert window...)
To recap: we have one improvement in Compare window (mark the photos which we compare) and several in the Results of Search for Duplicates.
