location address Categories

Post by MrRik »

Hi Pierre, (same name as my dad btw  who speaks also fluently french )

Concerning Xnview Classic v2.13
Is there a way to modify the location address (path) of the “Categories” thumbnails, who are present in the thumbnails pane at the right side??
Why? The related pictures are moved to another partition, eg: from “E:\MyDocuments\pictures” to “H:\MyDocuments\pictures”

The address (path) of each “Categories” thumbnail seems stored into the “category.db” file (users folder Xnview).
So I tried to modify the addresses in this file using “Notepad”.
I used the feature “find what”, “replace with”. This way I replaced exactly the old location with the new one (and nothing else), with one click via “replace all”.
But after closing and saving the “category.db” file, all “Categories” thumbnails were even disappeared?! Before modification of the concerning file, they were still present at the right pane as empty frames without image inside; so awaiting of a better solution I restored the old version.
Strange, the same way I was able to successfully modify the location addresses in the “bookmark.ini” and “xnview.ini” file?! But in the “category.db” file this trick does not work for some reason?! Maybe because the “category.db” is “.db” file?

I wonder, is there an other way/editor to recover these “Categories” thumbnails, change the address path of the related picture file, inside the “Categories” thumbnails?!

If there is no solution, my dad will have to tag about 1000 pics again, nice job
So if there is a fast solution, I might donate again, since Xnview is are favorite image browser.

Anyway thanks :!:

you can't modify a .db with notepad :) you need a database app like 'SQLite Database Browser', but you need to know database...
If you send me your database, i can change it...
Pierre.
