Installation - sticky note?

Post by mrwul »

Up front: surely it might have been explained somewhere on the site, but I vainly spent quite some time to find it: installation notes.
May I suggest to add a sticky note on "Setup"?

e.g.
I now have the 'non-MP' XnView installed (like 32bit?)

and like to swith to MP.

- is it recommended to uninstall the current non-MP XnView
- having Windows 7 x64: what version (32b or x64) to install?
- are their any differerences between these two (e.g. from performance point of view)?
- is there a way to import settings from the current version into the XnView MP settings?
and maybe some other things to consider when installing MP ?

My recommendation would be to have a small (locked) sticky note.

That aside, XnView is really a wonderful piece of software!

:D :D :D

Pierre wanted to say that there are feature differences between XnView and XnViewMP

They are different, but from performance point of view (your question) XnViewMP is faster, especially in certain areas (for example Batch Convert) and if it is correctly configured.

Thanks.

I just started with installing XnViewMP (x64).
Opened good 'old' XnView (v2.03) and then went thru the 'settings' - side by side with XnViewMP
Not yet completed as I clicked on rebuilding thumbnails of 1 specific folder.
This being a big folder XnViewMP is still 'busy' (started at 07:18, so now over more than 3 hours)

Regretfully the .ini files are not compatible and there is no such thing as to save / convert settings to 'XnViewMP settings'.

Made screenshots of each and every settings-panel, so I know what I all changed should I need to do a fresh install.
