New & a DAM novice, HELP!

Post by tonyt »

Hi

Can anyone out there help me. As per a previous post I have colour coded, rated and key worded using categories my entire collection of photos. When I move them or copy them, the information does not go with them. How do I set up XNMP so the information does go with the photo? Also, will I have to redo all my photos from scratch to make this work? I am using latex version of XNMP.

Many thanks

Well, since you're a novice I'll try a simple answer:

For JPEG is enough to do this:
Clipboard 1.jpg
But I think that you aren't speaking about JPEGs because the above settings are enabled by default (IIRC).

Then, select "all" your files (it is ok to select the root folder of your pictures or the folder(s) which you cataloged - but take care that it may take a while) and go to View | Update Files from Database

Now you'll see next to each image an XMP file (called 'sidecar') which contains the metadata. If you want to move/copy the "information" with the images you must move/copy the sidecar also.

Also, will I have to redo all my photos from scratch to make this work?
Nope. :) See above.

I am using latex version of XNMP.

Many thanks

The LATEX version??? It must be pretty elastic, I think... :D

Btw, how did you find this problem?

How do you copy/move the photos? (XnView MP automatically updates the catalog info on Copy/Move)
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Many thanks, it worked! I copy / move the files from within XNViewMP - not the latex but latest version! Auto correct sucks!

Cheers
