XnView MP 64-bit version completely fails to run

When I try to run XnView MP 64-bit version, I get the following message:
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit at the moment, and the program used to work, at least as of last August. I believe the problem started when I updated my portable version of the program.
The 32-bit version works on this computer, but I wanted to report the problem with the 64-bit version.
