Category/keyword filtering via the quick search box above thumbnails is not working for folder opened from Favorites!
-open folder from Favorites
-enter a category known that the images got
-the file list goes blank
expected: only the images with category entered get shown
It works for location opened from Folders, and database result from Filters.
-if this is so, it would be good to have a "Go" list, drop-down of favorites which would open a location on the Folders pane, thus the limitations of Favorites (can't drag-n-drop files also) would not be felt.
-which means don't need a Favorites pane
-we just need a Go To list and we work from the Folders pane
-plus color-rating of folders with filter!
-but perhaps this bug can be fixed and solve the issue.

Re: 0.66 quicksearch by category not working in favorites
Hi,
I think I am having the same issue, I will try to elaborate.
I am using XnView MP v0.68 for Mac, I am browsing through pictures on my server. To try the tagging, I used the XMP subjects, since the categories are a bit glitchy (won't save or will double or triple). I also like the idea, that the information is saved within the picture directly.
So when I use quicksearch for a term entered in the subject, the results will only show if in the folder-browser I am in the folder which has the picture. I would like to see results as well from a folder with a higher hierachical level.
I even tried to add the higher hierachical folder to the favorites, but still the quicksearch only quields results when I choose that folder within the browser.
So if that is the behaviour that is intended, please let me know how to achieve the following:
I want to be able to use quicksearch for meta-data that is entered either by me (Mac) or my husband (PC) for our pictures which are stored on a server. I want to see results for the current folder highlighted in the folder-browser and all child-folders. The data entered should be stored in the images directly, not in a program database, so that the media archive is independent and will be usable for many years to come.
I hope you can understand my problem and my wish, my English is not the best especially around midnight.
Thanks!

Re: 0.66 quicksearch by category not working in favorites
Can you elaborate THIS part a little more please? To try the tagging, I used the XMP subjects, since the categories are a bit glitchy (won't save or will double or triple). I also like the idea, that the information is saved within the picture directly.
Also, perhaps I should stress that the categories are "saved within the picture directly" if the program is configured correctly (and by default it is).
Yes, sure.So when I use quicksearch for a term entered in the subject, the results will only show if in the folder-browser I am in the folder which has the picture. I would like to see results as well from a folder with a higher hierachical level.
I even tried to add the higher hierachical folder to the favorites, but still the quicksearch only quields results when I choose that folder within the browser.
The Quicksearch feature searches only in the displayed thumbnails (ok, files).
If you want to search recursively in all sub-folders of a given root you have two options:
1. Open that root in the Folders tree, right click on that folder and choose 'Show all files (recursive)'. Then you can use the Quicksearch feature.
2. (Much better): Pray and ask Pierre to add a "Show all files (recursive)" button on the file toolbar - at the red line indicated bellow:
It is very easy to do it - the code already exists, Pierre needs only to surface it properly in GUI.
You can do this right now - see above for limitations. Also you can share the same DB if you want.I want to be able to use quicksearch for meta-data that is entered either by me (Mac) or my husband (PC) for our pictures which are stored on a server.
Yeah, ok. What do you mean by "highlighted"? Now the program shows only the results that match the specified criteria and I think that's best approach in our case.I want to see results for the current folder highlighted in the folder-browser and all child-folders.
The data is stored automatically in database AND in files if the program is configured to do so (it is by default) and if the file format permits. If the file format does not permit embedding, then you have the option to export manually the metadata in sidecars. An enhanced metadata engine is in the works which will allow this export to be done automatically also for the files which does not support metadata embedding. The data entered should be stored in the images directly, not in a program database, so that the media archive is independent and will be usable for many years to come.
However, I do suggest to use DB when you do your category search. It will be several orders of magnitudes faster. And if (and only if) the DB has some problem(s) then (and only then) re-import the categories in a new database and start over.
No problem!I hope you can understand my problem and my wish, my English is not the best especially around midnight.

Re: 0.66 quicksearch by category not working in favorites
I just wanted to make an example-walkthrough with screenshots, but the problem didn't show up again. So now I used the categories for a couple images, but when I quicksearch for them (even with all pictures in sub-folders shown recursively) no results are shown. There is also no information stored in the image metadata, I opened with a different viewer (Mac Preview) which won't show the categories anywhere within the information. I re-checked the properties, and the option for "db-categories are exported in XMP-/IPTC-subjects" (or something close, since it's German) is checked.m.Th. wrote: Can you elaborate THIS part a little more please?
how about this: tonight I will try a clean install, work with a local folder with a couple pictures only (to make sure that there is no problem with the connection to the server) and will try to reproduce what I did with the categories and the quicksearch results.
btw, I would totally LOVE to have a button for the all the images in the sub-folders - where do I vote?

Close/(re)Open the program. The categories appear in the Categories pane and/or filtered correctly in Categories Filter?jsb wrote:I just wanted to make an example-walkthrough with screenshots, but the problem didn't show up again. What file format are files? (JPG, PNG, TIFF, PSD, some kind of RAW like CR2, NEF etc.)?
Yes, sure. Why not?
