How do I un-install XnView

Post by moriarty »

I have XnView on my PC latest version. But I cannot find it listed in the programs in the Control Panel install/un-install section? I think it is great program. Only reason I want to un-install it is so that I can install the XnViewMP that seems a later and more enhanced program. But I think that XnView is a super program. But why is there no way to un-install it via the Control Panel?

You should be able to install XnViewMP without uninstalling XnView 'Classic' ... :D

It would probably be better to leave XnView 'Classic' installed anyway, as XnViewMP is still in beta and doesn't have the full feature set yet.

XnView 'Classic' is 32-bit software and you are probably using Windows x64, but I don't see why that should be the problem. You could try Googling your Windows version for something like 'program doesn't show in Control panel'... Maybe someone can suggest a reason? :?:

  • NirSoft: MyUninstaller
MyUninstaller is an alternative uninstaller utility to the standard Add/Remove applet of Windows operating system. It displays the list of all installed application, and allows you to uninstall an application, delete an uninstall entry, and save the list of all installed applications into a text file or HTML file.
MyUninstaller also provides additional information for most installed applications that the standard Add/Remove applet doesn't display: product name, company, version, uninstall string, installation folder and more.
Follow these steps to manually remove XnView Classic from your system if you didn't use an EXE installer but extracted XnView from a ZIP package:
  1. Go to Tools » Options... » System integration » Integration and disable the following settings:
    • Add 'Browse with XnView' to context menu
    • Add XnView to 'Send To' context menu
    • Add XnView to applications for USB events (camera, scan, ...)
    • Use XnView Shell Extension
  2. Go to Tools » Options... » Associations » Associations and click on Restore All.
  3. Delete XnView's installation folder (e.g. %ProgramFiles%\XnView\ or %ProgramFiles(x86)%\XnView\).
  4. Delete XnView's configuration folder (%AppData%\XnView\ = C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\XnView\ or C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\XnView\)
  5. Delete all entries under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\XnView\ (except for
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\XnView\ShellEx\ and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\XnView\XnViewMP\) if you chose to store the settings in the registry.
  6. Remove all shortcuts pointing to XnView from the start menu.
