Looking for information on catalog include/exclude

Post by Jude2 »

I'm trying to find out how the Included/Excluded in tools->settings->catalog is supposed to work.

I notice that files were included in the catalog when I browsed directories with XnViewMP in its original installed state (no Included/Excluded entries), so it's obviously not necessary to create "include" entries to enable cataloging. Under what circumstances would it be useful to create an "include" entry?

I'm also not sure how subdirectories are handled. Does an include/exclude apply only to the exact directory name I enter, or does it implicitly include all subdirectories?

Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a lot of directories that are full of unsorted pictures that I sometimes browse but I don't want cataloged yet. I will eventually move them to other directories when I'm ready to sort them and I'll want them cataloged after I move them.

For example you can exclude d:\path and include d:\path\subfolder
