ratings and categories are not saving

Hi there

Whenever I navigate away from a picture or folder that I have rated/categorised, the information disappears.

I believe it worked originally, but has recently stopped working. The only difference is that the files are on a pen drive now (writeable).

Anyone have any ideas why it's doing this?
