Image Resize

I have a question about image resize.
XnView provides the Lanczos algorithm.
However, the other viewer, FastStone Image Viewer, provides the Lanczos3 algorithm.
From the literal meaning of view, I think Lanczos3 is better than Lanczos.
Are they the same algorithm? :?:

I don't know which lanczos xnview actually uses, but a bit of research reveals that the number at the end indicates quality/speed. The higher the number (google turned up ones as high as lanczos5), the higher the quality, and the more time it takes to perfrom the resize.
