I want to watch my holiday photos and videos. They are (in Explorer) sorted by date, so now and then, there are videos in between the photos. I want to watch everything in sequence.
So XNView shows me the first images, I press PgDn to get to the next one (can the shortcuts be modified btw?), and eventually there is a video. XNView shows what looks like a video viewer and plays the video. It stops after the video ends.
Now how to I get to the next image in the sequence? When I press PgDn, XNView continues to play only videos, ignoring the photos. How do I get out of this video playback mode?

I seem to have a day of not being able to explain myselfxnview wrote:PgDn doesn't show you the next image? And View>File>Next?

What happens when you have a folder that contains 100 photos and videos (MOV, in my case) and you want to watch them ordered by date/time? for instance, you look at 12 photos (always pressing PgDn to proceed) and the next file is a video. XNView opens the video viewer and displays the video. Now the next one would be a photo again. Press PgDn and what happens?
In my case, XNView (still in video mode) doesn't show me the next photo, but the next video and then all other videos. It gets stuck in video mode once it has shown the first video.
Same for you, or different?

Re: sequence of images/videos
I think I first have to understand how to set the order of displayed files (I think my problem might have something to do with that). Where do I set in which order files are displayed?
I have a folder in Windows Explorer, containing some photos and videos. When I say "order by date ascending", they are displayed in that order in Explorer. When I open XNView and open the first image and then the next and the next, the display order is different, it is not ordered by date. How do I set the display order in XNView?

In the browser you have View > Sort By or you can right-click in the folder and use the context menu options.veloopity wrote:How do I set the display order in XNView?
Re: sequence of images/videos
ah thanks! I've first sorted by date ascending. The resulting sequence is different now from what Windows offers me - I have to sort by EXIF date because that's what Windows does too. Of course then, the movies are all at the end because they don't have an EXIF date.
<sigh> but that's not an XnView problem. Maybe what I want is not possible - I'd want to sort everything by EXIF date (photo original date) if applicable, and the files that don't have EXIF, like movies, by file date. Then I'd have an overall sorting by date.
Apparently I'm the only one who wants that
thank you

You could request that as a Suggestion and see if there is any support...veloopity wrote:I'd [like] to sort ... by EXIF date ... if applicable, and [for] files that don't have EXIF, like movies, by file date. Then I'd have an overall sorting by date.

The obstacle -- apart from Pierre's time -- might be finding a suitable name for that option in the Sort menu...
