Newbie Getting Started Issue

I installed XnViewMP and XnConvert hoping to be able to convert old "Pictureit" mix pictures to jpeg. I do not know if I am not doing the operation correctly or if these programs do not convert the mix files. My attempts to date all ended with a notice that the photo.mix file was not a picture. TIA JP3
