Xnview+Win10 save window resizing

Post by robza »

Hello,
I have problem with Xnview version 2.34 on windows 10 64bit.
It's something wrong with save window, it is possible to make window bigger but is impossible to make smaller.
Uninstalling application doesn't help. Xnview keeps windows size settings. Only registry cleaning can resolve this issue.

No, he means dialog window "Save image" ("Sauvegarder l'image") which appears after you press Ctrl+Shift+S (Ctrl+Maj+S) can be only enlarged. I confirm this, in Windows 10 Enterprise x64 you can only enlarge "Save image" window by dragging its border, you can't shrink it back this way.
Even WinResizer can only enlarge this window.

I noticed some months back on Windows 7 (x64) that the File > Save As... window in some programs was appearing maximised and couldn't be resized...

At a quick check, that is the case with XnView 2.13 on my computer and also with MS Word 2010 (Click-to-Run) and possibly some other programs, but not with XnViewMP, Notepad or Adobe Reader DC, for example.

Edit:

A quick Google brought up a suggestion to double-click on the window title bar and that has worked for me... :D

My wireless mouse sometimes seems to output two clicks when clicked once, I've sometimes had windows maximise unexpectedly and blamed MS for introducing an unwanted feature in Windows 7, so possibly the above windows could have become maximised when I clicked on the title bar to move them??

Just checked, in Windows 10 x64 the same happens with "Open picture" dialog window (can not be shrinked, inherits size of "Save picture" window).
Both those windows ("Open picture" and "Save picture") in XnView are customized, they have additional buttons and fields comparing to standard "Open" and "Save" dialogs. Probably XnView uses templates?
Guys from this discussion state that from Vista it has become more complicated thing. Maybe MS changed something in Windows 10 messages processing so radically that it has become incompatible with older methods (or they just broke it)?
I have never tried doing this myself, so I don't know if this is the reason. Sorry if my assumption leads you in the wrong direction.

Hmm, on my side problem has dissolved on its own. I don't know if it was fixed with one of W10 updates or by some another install, but now free resizing of "Save..." and "Open..." windows is back.
