Using virtual folders could be more fluent

Post by Alt Bass »

Hello.

I enjoy the functions of XnViewMP. However, the way of handling virtual locations is quite bad (e.g. compared to Bridge CS5).
1) Once I double-click on the image from search results I cannot go back, I can only perform same search. Hitting "ESC" opens the folder where an opened item resides.
2) Once I go to another folder I cannot go back to search results or file list, I can only load same list.
3) I cannot make collections - non-existent folders which behave as usual folders and preserve their contents. Smart collections (folders having fresh search results from remembered search settings) would be nice, too.
4) I cannot refresh search results other than by performing same search.
5) (not competely related) The previous search settings do not get saved.

All of these is important for fluent workflow in certain cases. I often want to open an item of search result and then go back. I do not have any specific ierarchy in my archive, I prefer to "find all" and then sort by creation date, XnViewMP does not allow me to do this easily while Bridge CS5 has an exemplary ease of use in this case (it even reopens previous search upon restart, without caching the results though), none of mentioned notches are present in Bridge. In Bridge one can go back unlimited times.

I have found a thread about collections: http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=28322

Am I overlooking anything?

I now see that I may cycle through the selection of files if I press enter after selection in Viewer. However, other problems remain.
