bad quality of PDF documents

Post by MENCK »

Hi,

we have the problem that the quality of the PDF documents is to bad.
The documents are displayed pixelated and with wrong fonts.
In all other PDF viewer the documents look better.
What can we do?

If you are using XnView Classic you need to install Ghostscript 32-bit even if you are using Windows 64-bit, and then increase the DPI value used to rasterise the input image from the default GS value of 72 to a higher value:

Great, it works. Thank ya.
One question. XNview seems to have problems to differentiate between landscape and portait at PDF documents. You have a solution for us too?

I'm not immediately aware of any problem, you should have rotate clockwise and anti-clockwise icons on the toolbar if needed, possibly related to a setting in whichever other program you have been using??

Could you provide more details and possibly upload an example file, if necessary?

All scanned PDF documents are shown cut. It doesn´t matter if this are landscape or protrait format documents.
Only with PDF documents.

I send you an example document. If you open the document with Adobe Reader DC the document will shown correctly. If you open the document with XnView the document are shown cut.

Well, your file opens correctly in portrait orientation with XnView Classic with GS 32-bit, but the second and third pages can't be selected which is a problem I haven't seen before, in fact trying to do so seems to cause a crash... I don't know if this has been seen before :?:

Edit: The problem persists even with Tools > Options > General > Read/Write > General tab -- Ignore read errors checked.

However, the file opens normally and all pages can be viewed using XnView MP, but note that the Ghostscript version installed must match the x32 or x64 of the version of the program you install. The DPI used is also set in the Viewer in File > Format settings...

We have installed XnView version 2.35 (fullversion) and GS 8.54, both 32 bit.
And we can open the PDF document in portait orientation but we can´t see the whole document.
Then I installed XnView MP 0.79 x32. The same, I can open the PDf document in portrait orientation but I can´t see the whole document or drawing.

The only time I have seen anything like this, I think from memory, was when the incorrect 32/64 bit version of GS was installed, but you are clear that you are using the correct version?

My only immediate suggestion would be to try installing a later version of GS, I am using 9.15 and the current version is 9.19 . You might also try making a fresh start and install XnView MP 64-bit and GS 64-bit, there is no problem having both versions installed at the same time...
