0.83: Loosing of hidden data, loosing when move
Hello. I'm finding the unpleasant problems in XnViewMP 0.8 x64 on Xubuntu 16.04.
1) It is ability to delete data in non-free folders without confirmation. If I disable in "Tools/Settings/File list/Custom filter/Visible" showing of non-graphic files, I can unwillingly delete my non-displayed data in the folders. If I delete non-free folder, the non-displayed data are deleted with folder. (And what is the worst: data from deleted directories are not moved to the trash bin, I am finding only the folder in trash bin, in the Xubuntu.) So, if I use XnViewMP to manage my files and tidy up on my drive by Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V, erase folders, etc. (I have mixed structure of pictures and other files), I am loosing the data definitely if I don't take care. After I've taken notice of this problem, I selected viewing all types of files in Settings.
2) I've met the second problem during moving folders with pictures by Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V methode. If I try to move the folder with some pictures into to the same position in the folder structure (as a mistake), the application gives me the window to make decission: "Skip", "Overwrite", Abort". If my choice is "Skip" or "Abort", no problem occurs. But if I choice "Overwrite", my source folder with pictures disappears definitely, data are lost.
Thanks.

Re: Loosing of hidden data, loosing when move
If you hide some extension from browser, hidden files are deleted by deleteing the folder, right?premysl wrote: 1) It is ability to delete data in non-free folders without confirmation. Re: Loosing of hidden data, loosing when move
Hello Pierre,
thank you a lot for your reaction. You're true, if I hide some extensions in settings, it seems to be in my own competence (risk) to not delete folders with hidden data. In spite of that, I think deleting of folders in this case is a "delicate" point. My opinion is that produce and saving of data is one of the main goals of IT. In last there was allways tendence to protect data, although sometimes it makes little bit complitacted using. We all make a mistakes and it is not only problem of "us" but a problem of our brain. So, the good praxis, by my meaning, is to make systems "mistakes proof". My own concrete experience is this: I started using your aplication on the Linux and made some initial settings. One of them was setting of hiding non graphical files, because I meant it is a good idea. I used to use the aplication a for a few weeks. After that I decided to do some managing of data on drive. I started to do order and cleaned some directories. Until I made some destructive operations when files were irrevocably deleted, I remembered the setting from last. Good message is that absolute injuries was not so big for me, but this experience prompted me to formulate this message for you. I really think deleting of directory in your aplication is so delicate (because possibility of do mistake) that aplication has to warn the user if there are activated filters in the moment of folder erasing. Another way would be to inform user about filters activated permanently in the explorer. Maybe this is what is just missing. Please try to consider it again really. It is my opinion and you may have another meaning. I am absolutly sure I am NOT the only one user on the world whose brain works same as mine, it is psychology. I think the users will evaluate the quality of aplication better if they will have positive experiences only. I like your aplication very much and I mean it is one of the best these times. I would be happy if I can help improve this SW as one of your sitisfied users.
Have a good day!

Re: Loosing of hidden data, loosing when move
Thank you for your long description and posting, premysl. Loosing data like image files is never fun. Any software should support users in best possible way to avoid such a loss of data.
A longer time ago I've suggested to display a special message box whenever deleting a non-empty folder. See topic Message box when removing non-empty folder.
File filtering can easily result in deleting non-empty folders by accident, so this old request for such a special message box when deleting a non-empty folder is relevant and important, again.

Re: Loosing of hidden data, loosing when move
This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 0.84 beta 3. Could you please try and confirm the bug fix, premysl?
Re: 0.83: Loosing of hidden data, loosing when move
Hello Pierre! I'm very sorry for my replay delay due to christmass time and doing many other things. I am going to test your new version in short time!

Re: 0.83: Loosing of hidden data, loosing when move
Hi, Happy New Year!
I have free time to experiments now. Where can I get the new beta version to test, please?

cday: You probably mean this version:

http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=34349
But we are talking about version for Linux.

Re: 0.83: Loosing of hidden data, loosing when move
Ah, your first post did refer to Xubuntu, but for practical reasons Pierre is only providing Windows x64 versions of the betas...premysl wrote:But we are talking about version for Linux.

Re: 0.83: Loosing of hidden data, loosing when move
0.84 Final version is available on all platforms. premysl, could you please try to reproduce your problem and confirm the bug fix?
