:) Hello !

- When a thumb-nails table is displayed in the browser, you can use the "Refresh" button, set in the small 8-icon tool-bar.
Also the same from the “View” menu…

- You can set too an automatic refresh : Options >> Browser [+] >> File List >> Tick the box Auto-refresh.

:mrgreen: Kind regards,
Claude

I am having the same problem, and I have tried using the refresh option...to no avail. The thumbnail is still not updated.

Wen you use jpeg lossless thumbnail, the embedded thumbnail should be rotated too, could you send me original picture to check?

I've noticed this problem as well (that a thumbnail is different than the actual picture it represents), but I found it a different way. I was trying some batch .jpg-to-.jpg conversions and I was putting the target files in a different directory than the source files. When I clicked on the target directory (in the browser), I was surprised to see that the thumbnails of the target files were identical to the thumbnails of the source files. When I clicked on a target thumbnail to reveal the actual picture, I noticed that the picture had indeed undergone the conversion, but the thumbnails hadn't changed from the source thumbnails at all.

Sometimes all of the thumbnails are wrong and sometimes only the first one is wrong, but I've never seen them all correct. Also, I've only noticed this problem with .jpg-to-.jpg conversion. I've tried .jpg-to-.gif and .jpg-to-.bmp conversions, but there are no problems with thumbnails in those cases.

This was a simple batch conversion doing only a vertical flip. Picture says a thousand words, right?

Also, doing a refresh doesn't work, and I've tried disabling and deleting the cache, but that doesn't work either.

For me it works that way, so I can confirm this.

@TheEvilHammer:

No, unfortunately not.

You've unchecked: Options -> Browser -> Thumbnail -> "Show info icons (...)"

So we neither can't see if your picture has any EXIF info, nor if you use the embebbded thumbnails for thumbnail view.

Thanks for the invite! I just registered my account... :D

As I mentioned in the thread about rotating/flipping, unchecking the option for "Use Embedded thumbnail" seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks again for your help!

I just discovered the "Edit IPTC Data" dialog, and I can confirm that my thumbnails were being displayed incorrectly because they are wrong in the file. Is there any way I can use XnView to blow away the embedded thumbnails in all my JPEG files?

Hm, that's curious! Please answer my questions from this thread.

Please wait before you delete those useful embedded thumbnails.
You should know, that they are the reason why xnView is that fast.
Let's find the causes before you delete the symptoms! ;)

My problem with thumbnails is not confined to image rotations. If I take a color photo, convert it to grey scale and save a new copy, my new thumbnail still appears in color. Now, I have been using embedded thumbnails...so, is this what I should expect with this option enabled?

I turned off "use imbedded thumbnails" and repeated the operation, and I did get a grey scale thumbnail for my new image file.

The thing is, if I turn off embedded thumbnails, I can't seem to reset the original (embedded) thumbnails. I have tried refreshing them, but they still are created with the embedded image. I can see this from the image info icons.

So, from my above example, the original thumbnail is color (embedded), the first grey image still has a color (embeddedd) thumbnail, and the second grey image has a grey thumbnail.

I'd like to know if I'm making a mistake, or if this is truly a software bug.

I'm pretty sure that my camera writes all the EXIF data correctly - I can view EXIF data for any image file through Explorer's "Properties" dialog and through XnView's "Properties" dialog. My camera is a Toshiba PDR-M60.

I have altered some of my images before using the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and IrfanView, so maybe one of those (I would guess the former) is the culprit.

However, as I mentioned before, I have disabled the "Use Embedded thumbnails" option, and now the thumbnails and pictures all match up correctly. I am assuming disabling this option forces XnView to create thumbnails on the fly. Even if this is true, my XnView still works amazingly fast - I don't notice any lag or loading times at all. And I also have the cache disabled too! :D
