0.84: UI: Order and visibility of toolbar buttons

Post by helmut »

In XnView 0.84 the order of the toolbar buttons is different to XnView Classic. Also, in XnView MP many toolbar buttons are hidden by default (e.g. Undo, Redo, Red Eye Correction, ...)

Many users are familiar with XnView Classic and its user interface. Also, the user interface of XnView Classic has been discussed a lot. Arrangement and default visibility of toolbar buttons should be in the same as in XnView Classic. Changes in the default can be made if there is a good reason, but then these changes should be made both in XnView MP and XnView Classic.

An example:
In image view mode, the buttons for navigation and zooming are located in the middle in XnView Classic. This is good because these buttons are often used and can be reached easily. In XnView MP these buttons are on the very right and thus are not reachable that well.

Note: This is not a real bug. But differences in the user interface of XnView Classic and XnView MP are irritating and should be avoided whenever possible This is why I'm posting this as a bug.

Very good. FAIK, the order and visibility of toolbar buttons is set in a .ini file. Could we users perhaps help you to create the .ini file which then becomes part of the download package?

Also the buttons from thumbs pane are very, very small when someone uses a very common layout (called also "Outlook Layout") on 16:9 / 16:10 screens. See below:

I think that the solution is quite simple. Put another wrap (toolbar break) before the gauge which controls the thumbs' size.

Wrapping of toolbar seems to be fixed.

Please note that you have to delete the config file "default.bar" to see the default toolbar.
Order and Visibility of toolbar buttons is much better but still differs quite a bit from XnView Classic.

I close this bug report and will create a new bug report for 0.85 with a list of the differences in detail.
