Problem with a big animated gif

The attached gif file which I downloaded from some github page can't be viewed/played by XnView (or XnViewMP) on my system, crash, freeze or error message box without a message are the symptoms. It plays OK in my browser and other image viewers so I think it might be an XnView bug.
