I have thumbnails in 3 columns. I can hold down <shift> + right arrow + page up to select many files (lets say first 5% of total). This normally works fine.
However, there is a circumstance when program attempts to select *most* images instead of desired few. I am not using any cache or scan file headers.
1. Large number of files (18,000- I have no problems with 11,000).
2. Preview several images using F11.
3. Scroll thumbnails down a few hundred files.
4. Now when you use "<shift> + <right arrow> + <page up>", it sometimes starts to select most (10,224) thumbails after pressing <page up> a few times. Not the files you want to choose.
5. Pressing <page up> once after selection has reached top also always causes "select-most" problem. This is easy to do by accident.

Only if you have a really big number of files?marsh wrote:I have thumbnails in 3 columns. I can hold down <shift> + right arrow + page up to select many files (lets say first 5% of total). This normally works fine.

No. It also happens when with 3800 thumbnails sized 240x184- using no preview or folder tree.xnview wrote: Only if you have a really big number of files?

Re: Thumbnail selection problem with large number of files.
Yes, and strange problem occurs with 1 column of thumbnails also. It is odd that it may not happen if you never preview some thumbnails with F11. I am not using viewer at all- only browser and F11. I think problem is only in thumbnail view.xnview wrote:And if you have folder tree and preview?marsh wrote:No. It also happens when with 3800 thumbnails sized 240x184- using no preview or folder tree.xnview wrote: Only if you have a really big number of files?
Problem is much worse in thumbnails mode than thumbnails&labels.
It looks like a browser only problem...
Problem is avoided by using much less thumbnails or using <shift +home>.
Problem is also easily avoided be using the viewer on any of the thumbnails!
Settings:
Win2k 512M 640+M virtual
120x90 HQ thumbs, 3 columns, 15666 images, using 391 Meg, all caches off.
To recreate problem:
Scroll downwards a few hundred thumbnails. View a dozen or so with F11 periodically.
Now make mulitple selection using <shift + right-arrow + pg up>.
Try to select as many thumbnails as you can. Problem usually occurs instantly.
Now instead of selecting a couple of hundred files that you have already looked at, it goes berserk and selects 8097 files.
In thumbnails and labels mode, it automatically selects 4722 out of 15668 files.
Problem usually occurrs when <shift + right-arrow + pg up> reaches top row + 1 beyond.

Autoselections
Hello,
I've got a similar problem : I select some pictures inside a small folder ( less than 100 ) by using 'ctrl' + touchpad on the thumbnails.
Some pictures 'autoselect', as if they were contaminated by the adjacent ones.
Sometimes, some pictures have got half of a blue border around them for a while, as if they were half-selected.
Setting : 1.82.4 + wine
