Iconset for XnView 1.81
Icon madnes vol.2
Before XnView 1.8 there was very intensive discussion about creating new icons for XnView: Iconset for XnView 1.75 ( I think it is still the longest topic in this forum ) 1.75 changed to 1.8 and the result of the new icons was somewhat compromise.
Fell free to join the discussion in this new topic what hopefully leads to new shiny iconset for XnView 1.81 or 1.82, 1.83, 1.9...
I'll start! I got sudden inspiration to remake one of the iconsets in that old topic. I don't have the original anymore so I made a new based on the stuff in that topic.
Iconset: 256 colors - 16x16 / 32x32 (no 48x48)
1.8 & Sudden inspiration screen
download (zip - 25 KB)
Edit: I had to move the file to rapidshare, because my "constantly out of space" home page host.

Re: Icon madnes vol.2
What a coincidence, just some mintues ago I had had a look at our old iconset and thought that it's quite nice. I'll have a look at your new one...ckv wrote:Icon madnes vol.2

I posted in this old topic cause I didn't dare to make a new one, besides I am training my necromancer skills!
If this topic gets back to life, maybe the subject should be changed.

Copied from topic "Iconset for XnView 1.75"
I don't want to sound too lame but they all look a bit too "win 98" lol
i guess one thing that would give a new life to them would be a different backgorund. that white sheet is overused.
i'll try to make something, then i'll post it here.

ok here it is... i'm not a pro at design but you should get my point
and here's the psd

i think i've messed a bit too much with the xnview logo, but whatever... lol maybe it could be put inside a small frame like the default pictures icon on windows.

Thank you, Voodoo, for copying your post. Your criticism is right, time went on and we don't live in 1995 or 1998, anymore. We could try creating another iconset, but it's getting harder and I think this is more the job of graphic designers.
Your draft actually looks quite good, perhaps a bit more orange than yellow and red (so that the current icons do not look too old and different).

Well, I can try and make different versions with your suggestions.
The logo was plain orange. This one has some effects like gradient, shadow and transparency in the extension square.
i'm not the best person to go further on this subject, I bet there are better designers on this forum

Yes, the gradients and shadow makes it look modern. The extension square could be non-transparent for better readability, though.|VooDoo| wrote:Thanks.helmut wrote: Your draft actually looks quite good, perhaps a bit more orange than yellow and red (so that the current icons do not look too old and different).

I understand and that's the way I feel. For the old icon it was easy to play around a bit with colours but it's getting harder, now. Also, I think we should not just focus on the icons, but the whole icon family, starting from the very large one (300x300 pixels) down to the small 40x40 pixel icons need some "modernization". And there's also the banners which also will need a graphic designer.|VooDoo| wrote:i'm not the best person to go further on this subject, I bet there are better designers on this forum
