XnView: MP 0.93.1 64bit
OS: MacOS 10.14 (Mojave)
To reproduce:
Turn off option “Allow only one instance of XnView” and close XnView.
In Finder, double click an image file ==> XnView will start and show the image.
In Finder, double click another image file.
Actual behavior: The second image will be shown in the existing XnView window. The first image will not be shown any longer.
Expected behavior: A second XnView window will open, showing the second image. The first XnView window will continue showing the first image.

if you have “Allow only one instance of XnView”, a new tab is opened in XnView MP not a new window

Yes, but if you turned off “Allow only one instance of XnView”, then a new window should be opened, not a new tab.

Removing this option on Mac is of course a cheap solution. But I was hoping you could change XnView so that multiple instances can be opened from Finder. There are other programs where this is possible, for example IINA or Double Commander or the Preview app of macOS.

That's a pity. Simultaneous viewing of two (or more) pictures in separate windows is an important use case. It would be a big improvement if you could make that possible.
