JPEG lossless croping

Post by imforumman »

Hi,

Just started using MP and I'm likeing the feel of it and of course the speed.

If I remember correctly, the non-MP version had the ability to crop jpeg files lossless, a feature I really loved. Has this not been implemented in MP for a reason? Or am I just too dumb to find it?

Thanks a lot for this fantastic piece of software, a second time around.

Lossless crop is possible in XnViewMP.

Open a jpeg picture.
Select an area with your mouse within the picture.

Look in menu tools => jpeg transformations => crop

Ahh, ok, thanks for pointing that out, but...

... that does not work in conjunction with the crop tool (press the crop button and the extra toolbar appears, but the JPEG lossless transformations menu is grayed out). Currently, no fixed aspect ratio can thus be used for the lossless crop. Anyway, much cooler would be, if the crop toolbar contained a checkbox "Use jpeg losses crop transformation" and if selected, the less than pixel-exact lossless method would used and a re-encoding would be avoided. Maybe, while the checkbox is selected, the crop-rectangle could only be positioned in a place were the lossless method could crop the picture,

Could a moderator please move this to the Suggestions forum, or should I start a new thread there?

Thanks so much!

How to set lossless crop to be the default option when clicking the Crop button in the upper toolbar ?

Currently using the toolbar button is a lossy JPG crop because it asks whether to save image when moving to next image.
But when jpeg transformation menu crop is clicked it doesn't ask this same question.

Customize the Viewer toolbar to add the "Crop (lossless)" button instead of using the Crop button.

Thanks. This worked.

Crop (lossless) is missing an icon (with small white page), btw.
