Just installed XnView full version, winxp, at startup crashes get message "XnView for Windows 9x/NT/2000/Me/Xp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Not good.
- Since I don't think that Pierre owns a crystal ball, I guess that you might make a screen shot of that error message by Alt+PrintScreen, paste it even in MS-Paint to get a *.GIF pic, then display it here or send it to Pierre via email.
- Normally, such a message indicates the address and some details about the error.
- It asks too for " Report this error to M$ " [Yes] [No]
Kind regards,
Claude

Strange you are the first user with this problem, after the install, you have started XnView and had a crash?
some questions which might help to track the problem:
- What XP version are you working on (Service Pack, Home, Professional)?
- Did you use admin user or normal user for installation?
- Do you run a virus scanner software? Is it up-to-date? (Just to make sure it's not a virus or similar)
- Is it the first time you installed a version of XnView on this computer?
- After copying the program file "xnview.exe" to a completely empty directory (folder): Does it start from there or does the error still occur?
- Did you get any error messages during installation?
As Pierre has pointed out it's unusual and rare that XnView causes problems at start-up (there was a known bug on Windows 98 and NT in the version 1.80 but this has been fixed in the 1.80.1). Thank you in advance for helping to find the problem.
I got Windows XP SP2 with all updates and i reinstalled my system 2 weeks ago.
The time before the reinstall XnView didn't have any problem. So at least i can't say where the problem is. When i think of mpeg.dll i think of maybe VLC (Videolan)??? It is the only software i didn't use that much befor the reinstall of my os.
The problem could be one of "All in one codec packs", if users install too many codecs (or all), or another codec conflict. Try to uninstall such codec packs and install just codecs you really need.
Open Windows Explorer, move to C:\Program Files\XnView\Plugins and check that your "mpeg.dll" has the following....
Size: 110,592 bytes or 108Kb
Version: 1.80.2
Language: same as OS
AMD Ryzen 3 3300X 3.8Ghz, 16Gb DDR4, RX6600XT with Dell U2520D at 2560x1440@60Hz scaling 125%
