Slideshow: keys for navigation without transition effects

Post by A user »

Sometimes, during the slideshow, I would like to quickly return few images back. I like to use the crossfade transition, but because of the delay it causes such skipping through the slideshow is practically impossible.

There are many duplicate key shortcuts for the slideshow navigation, eg. space+backspace, pgUp+pgDown, left+right and up+down arrows. Would it be possible to change the behaviour of one of the combinations, eg. the pgUp+pgDown, to ignore the transitions and change for next/previous image as fast as possible?
Ideally this would be combined with progressive loading (requested elsewhere), so it would not be even neccessary to wait for whole images to decode.

Thanks.

I fully agree.

I disagree, everyone use another keys to navigate, so I'd prefer an option to change all keys. I think option is even not needed, all keys could switch images without transitions.

Basically I agree in both points. I think we have two cases:
1 - User wants to navigate to next image since he/she wants to see the next image right away (and not wait till the timer expires).
2 - User wants to quickly navigate and find a specific image

We should not introduce new keys, but make existing keys work for both cases. To achieve this, XnView could use transition if a navigation key is pressed once. If a navigation key is pressed again it should directly move to the previous/next image without transition (now 2 images away from where he/she started).

"Rule": User interaction must have priority over background process. Here, the background process is transition.
