Cannot save setting on Mac

I need to disable the spacebar next file command on my Mac as spacebar is used to speak in Zoom meeting. I try to go to preferences and change the kayboard "SPACE" setting to "No Action" but it always goes back to "Next File" I will even change the xnview.ini file if necessary but do not know the proper change to make.
