Absolutely LOVE that you now can delete all/any metadata from the menu. Nice feature!!!
XnView 1.82 alpha
Nice: Delete all metadata
Moderators: helmut, XnTriq, xnview
To clarify:
The metadata removal can be found in the Alpha in the menu at:
Edit > Metadata > Clean
I would love to have a XMP option, in the metadata list. Too many images made in Photoshop CS have that stupid junk in them, unless you configure PS to not include it. I only use IPTC myself.
Been looking for ANY tool to remove XMP tags from pics, and this is the first I've encountered.
I've already saved about 250Mb of space just from removing the xmp data from my pictures! Yeah, I have alot of pics...

1. Metadata is additional info attached to the image file. Such as date, author, description, size, orientation, software, camera manufacturer / model, thubnail of the image... Almost all digital cameras and some of the pait/photo editors will add metadata to the image.Tommy wrote:i need infos:
1- what are metadata?
2- erasing metadata from pictures does alter their quality?
2. No, erasing metadata doesn't alter the actual image quality in XnView 1.82 alpha, but in older XnView versions you can't erase metadata without saving the image separately. What means that if the image format isn't lossless (as JPG), the the image quality will alter.

2- what's the purpose of metadata? i removed metadata from a 700k picture and i obtained a 200 k picture. is all that junk?
3- a picture without metadata doeas aìhave disadvantage compared with apicture with metadata?

1. I think so, select images (ctrl+a for all), then use it.Tommy wrote:thanks. i got some more questions:

Hi All!
First, I'll say that I'm no expert on metadata. My experience has been with a standalone product called "JPEG Cleaner". I started using it partly because I post images to forums quite often, and sometimes there are size limits for the uploads. I just I thought I'd relate my experience, which only applies to jpg's, and with the metadata mostly being added by PhotoShop 7.01. I cleaned thousands of jpg's and usually the file size is reduced by 16 to 32kb.
...so, I'd be shocked to see 500kb removed! If this can happen i'd be interested to know what type of metadata, and what is the program adding it. Size change on the order of 700kb --> 200kb is something I would only expect to see if one were actually compressing the file, or "flattening" it. If I'm wrong, please be gentle! I just wanted to say as a cautionary measure...it just doesn't sound right...I'd be careful and at the very least duplicate an image clean one, then open and compare in an editor.
Other than that, I don't even know what IPTC is. I'd like to ask a couple questions, but I don't want to hijack this thread. I'll try and research it a bit first maybe, then post a question or two.

Embedded thumbnail ?
—> ckv
Hello !
- In addition of the meta-data you list rightly here, is an embedded thumb-nail considered as a meta-data too ?
- If "Yes", this could explain that HandsOff! wonders to get "huge" size reductions ?
- According to a Pierre's info, in some cases that embedded thumb-nail can be almost as so big as the simple picture that contains it … So…
Kind regards,
Claude
