Prev/next image keys not always working

Post by tbmmbt »

I've been trying out a few image viewers (FastStone/Image glass etc.) and XnView seems to be the best of all I've tried! Only been using it a few days and it seems really great apart from one issue I'm having.

I've set it to be the default image viewer on my system (Win 10) and also to open in full screen mode when I double click an image. But when I then try to use the arrow keys on my keyboard to move forwards/backwards to other images, it doesn't always work and sometimes I have to click on the full screen image, almost as if XnView has lost focus. Usually clicking anywhere on the full screen image once will fix it but sometimes I seem to have to click at least a couple of times until XnView has focus again.

This doesn't happen all the time (maybe 1 in 5 times) but it's a bit annoying. Any suggestions what could be causing it?

Also another small issue - I've set:

View>Preview>Auto-image size>Fit image to window width

and then click

Layout>Save layout

but when I open XnView again it's been reset to:

View>Preview>Auto-image size>Fit image to window, large only

Is this setting not supposed to be saved in the Layout?

you have this issue when double clicking on a file in windows explorer, right?
what do you have in settings>General>Mode when starting..?
View>Preview>Auto-image size>Fit image to window width

No, this setting is global settings>View>Auto image size

That's correct (actually I use XYPlorer instead of Windows Explorer). That setting is is set to 'Fullscreen - browser'. The image opens fullscreen when I double click it (which is what I want to happen, then I can switch to browser if I want to by pressing Enter) but occasionally the arrow keys don't work. Most of the time they do.

Sorry, I was talking about the image in the preview pane, not the fullscreen image. What I want is this setting:

View>Preview>Auto-image size>Fit image to window width

but on restart it always changes back to:

View>Preview>Auto-image size>Fit image to window, large only

even if I change the setting you suggest, that doesn't affect the preview pane.

I can't reproduce... Windows 10?

Oh ok, this setting is not saved

Yes, it's Win 10. It reproduces randomly and I don't see any pattern. Just thought I'd ask in case it was something you've seen before.

Never mind, it still looks like the best image viewer I've tried! Maybe it's because I'm using XyPlorer - I'll do some investigating.

Thank you for work Pierre :)
