Hello,
The categories filter (View > data pane > Categories filter) shows the number of files who are directly "inside" each category. When I click on one of these categories, the number of objet displayed in the thumbnail view is often less than the number displayed in "categories filter". Sometimes no object is displayed but in a blink I can see objects appearing then vanishing.
I did a small test :
- create a folder,
- put some images inside
- browse this folder with XvMP, add a new category to the images (the category must be applied only to these images)
- close XvMP
- rename the folder
- open XvMP, go to categories filter and click on the previously assigned category (the correct number of images is displayed)
What is observed : a blink then nothing inside the thumbnail view
What should be observed : same number of objet inside the thumbnail view than the number shown in categories filter. With objects displayed I can can quickly know were they were stored before. without them it is more tedious...
Some setting must not be correct on my config because it seems that XvMP usually shows the objets :
- see here viewtopic.php?f=82&t=40514&p=163320&hil ... es#p163320 " XnView still looks for the files in the original directory"
- and here : viewtopic.php?f=62&t=30491&p=121193&hil ... ed#p121193 : "The program correctly shows the 'missing' photos"
Any hint ?
Thank you for listening

What do you have in 'View>Filter by'?

Re: Categories filter : "missing" images not displayed
Hello Pierre,
You're right : the 'View>Filter by' is responsible for the situation I described. My filter setting is : "Images" for the first section then "All" for second and third.
When setting "All" in the first section I get the same number of objet inside the thumbnail view than the number shown in categories filter. If image is not found, at least I have a "generic" thumbnail that allows me to know where to look for. That is to say that with this filter setting my problem is solved.
But that's not intuitive and this seems to me not completelly logical : If one is looking for images with filter setting "Images", XnviewMP should list all images, even those that are not available at this moment.
Request :
Please consider modifing accordingly the behaviour of the settings in "View > filter by". If this was done then perhaps it could be useful to have, somewhere, an option "show only available files" that would allow the "old behaviour" if needed, for every kind of filtering.
Thank you for listening
