OK, I have installed the version 0964 — same problem.
However, when I open the window and change the directory and change back to the previous directory, the CPU goes down to 1% or even 0%:

Update:
When I close XnView MP in the evening and start it the next morning, it rebuilds the thumbnails in the browser and doesn't consume any CPU time.
So I guess it must be something with the Sleep Mode and Wake Up, or that all images are located on an external 8 TB USB 3.0 drive...
