0.98: crash on startup, only with several tabs open

Post by atomicthumbs »

XnView: MP 0.98 - 64 bit
OS: Windows 10 64-bit

This is a long-lived bug; I've noticed it for years but haven't gotten around to reporting it. When opening XnViewMP and resuming a previous session, with more than one or two tabs open, it will crash after several seconds, with no crash reporter.

This seems to happen intermittently, but usually requires 3+ tabs, all viewing images in folders containing many other images. It crashes after working fine for a few seconds, while the browser is loading thumbnails (though I don't know if that's part of the issue).

Closing all but one or two tabs before it crashes usually keeps it from crashing.

Effect: it crashes.

To reproduce:
1. Open 5-6 tabs viewing images in separate folders of hundreds to 1000+ images
2. Close XnViewMP
3. Open XnViewMP

Actual behaviour (bug): crashes on startup :bug:

Expected behaviour: resumes previous session correctly, without crashing.

No. It closes without triggering the crash dump dialog.

I get the exact same issue, it is very frustrating. Today I it has crashed 10 times in a row.

It loads up, then after a few seconds it disappears.

FWIW:
Faulting application name: xnviewmp.exe, version: 0.98.1.0, time stamp: 0x60080e5a
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.19041.662, time stamp: 0x27bfa5f0

Fault offset: 0x00000000000ff0f9
Faulting process ID: 0x24a8
Faulting application start time: 0x01d6f6375ab8b7ab
Faulting application path: Z:\XnViewMP2\xnviewmp.exe

Report ID: 93d42e26-d5ed-42f1-935f-fd850e1e76ae

Faulting package-relative application ID:

No clue there. This issue has been happening for years.

Same as atomicthumbs, I have a lot of tabs open and each folder has quite a lot of images in it.

Seventeen tabs open.

I don't know if this helps, but I finally got it working by clicking on a different folder before it was due to crash. Then I could go back into the folder I was originally in.
