XnView MP 0.98.2 - new tags/categories system

Is there a description somewhere of the new tags/categories system included in version 0.98.2 (change ID 1996)? I'd like to know more so that I can understand the impact, if any, on my existing categories and the way in which I use XnView to add categories to my photos. I'm a little reluctant to just jump in and see in case I screw something up (yes, I know, take backups....).
