UTF-8 string in IPTC-IIM not honored

XnViewMp 0.98.4 64-bit
My image contains a string of keywords, with the default separator '|'
The keyword strings show correctly in the Edit IPTC-IIM dialog, where they were entered, but in the Info ->IPTC-IIM pane the UTF-8 string is not shown correctly.

what do you have in settings>Metadata>encoding?

The image file was modifies with the data some time ago.
but ...
selecting Settings -> Metadata -> encoding -> IPTC -> UTF-8 correct the problem..
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
Unfortunately, for myself, the abundance of options makes the learning curve very steep.
