moving pictures

Hi there,
when I try to move jpg-pictures to another position in the same folder (sorting pictures), a copy of the picture is added at the last position, but the picture itself remains at the original position. If I use the shift-key in addition nothing happens... The settings for the mouse or correct. What am I doing wrong?
