JPEG XL support missing in 0.99.1 - or am I missing something?

Hi,
I recently installed a new version of XnView MP. I use Debian, so I downloaded the 64bit deb package from the main website.
I expected to be able to open and save JPEG XL files (according to many places on this forum and according to the changelog, the JPEG XL support is already implemented).
However, XnView MP doesn't recognize a sample .jxl file I downloaded, JPEG XL is not listed in the file formats in save as dialog, it is not listed in the settings window under formats/saving and formats/write tab.
I also tried the 32bit windows version under wine, both the one with installer and the portable one. I also tried version 0.99.0. All the same, there is no trace of any JPEG XL support.
Am I missing something, or did I misunderstand something, and there is no JPEG XL support yet?

I think I found the reason.
The JPEG XL functionality is only present in the 64bit Windows version.

Forgive the grave-dig, but my primary browser of 10+ years, Pale Moon, just added support for JPEG XL enabled by default in v31.4.0 and I'd like to take advantage of it, but I'm on Linux:

And XnView (or, in this case, XnView MP) is quire possibly the one of maybe just a handful of other program that I've been consistently using for even longer than Pale Moon across both Windows and Linux (the others being audio/video related stuff like Avidemux, mkvtoolnix, etc)

So yeah, what do?
