Hello All,
I've installed various versions of XnView (1.19, 1.25a gb,1.68) on my W2k pc but when I try viewing scanned documents (gif & tif), I keep getting an error opening the files. If I install any version on my Win 98 pc, I don't have any problems. It's making me tear my hair out as I want to relegate the 98 machine. All I'm trying to do is view a scanned document from within a database application using Xnview as the viewer. Like I've said, on my 98 machine, this works fine but on the W2k machine, I don't get to see a pip squeak. Error msg is like this:
Error opening file
C:\Documents and Settings\'username'\Local Settings\Temp\
What I've noticed is that there isn't a '\Local Settings\Temp' folder within the Documents & Settings Folder.
Any help will be useful. Emails to <Mail address removed by moderator - please see Rules and Guidelines> else I'll be reading your posts in this newsgroup.
Thanks

Please have a look at the post File associations on Windows XP. Let us know here if this doesn't help.Afroman wrote:...

I've already taken a look at that post and it doesn't seem to address my problem. All the basic checks have been performed and like others have mentioned in the post there's intermittent file association. I believe it's a problem in the way XnView interfaces with W2k. Any other suggestions?

The "normal" case/problem is that double-clicking on an image file in MS Explorer does not open the image. When rereading your initial post thoroughly, it is clear that your case is different.Anonymous wrote:...All I'm trying to do is view a scanned document from within a database application using XnView as the viewer. ...
Does double-clicking on an image file in MS Explorer work?

Sorry this reply has taken this long. To answer your question, yes, double-clicking on an image file in Explorer works fine. However I seem to have resolved the issue (and after extensive testing too!). The problem seems to be caused by the fact that the Local Settings and Temp folders are hidden within the user's folder under Documents and Settings. I resolved this by going the Folder Options in Windows Explorer (Tools - Folder Options) and making the hidden files/folders visible. So far its worked perfectly after much testing.
Many thanks for your input though.
God bless,

Didn't take long at all. A newsgroup's nature is slower than that of e-mail.Afroman wrote:Sorry this reply has taken this long...
Good to see that you got it working.

I'm afraid I've some bad news. The same problem has come back to plague me again so it's back to the drawing board once more. What I don't understand is that after exhaustive testing on Friday, this happens today. Could it be a fundamental problem in the way XnView interacts with W2k?
I'm at my wits end here.
