In connection with Outlook attachment XnView shuts down

Hello, good evening!

I‘ve been using XnView for years, and it is my standard application for opening .jpg and .png files.
Until recently, this worked perfectly. A few weeks ago the following problem occurred in connection with Outlook (I didn’t change any settings, neither in Outlook nor in XnView):
Now, when I klick an attached picture, XnView opens (as it should) and shuts down immediately.
Any ideas what I could do about it?

• Windows 10 Pro 21H1
• Office 365

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It always happens, wether there are only jpgs or others as well (.pdf, .docx).
It even occurs when there is only one jpg-file attached. I checked right now.
---> I thought you are asking about wether there are other attached files in the same email.

I re-read your post. Where you talking about the folder where the emails get stored? I guess they'll all go into some outlook folder (from which I can export them as .pst files).
If I need to look this up, can you tell me where to start?

yes i talk about folder of opened image file, it seems that you have a file that crash XnView

So, where would I find this folder?
I download all my email (from several addresses) to Outlook.
They get stored in the folder E:\Daten\_Outlook (I specified the folder years ago, don't remember how...).
There's the files Outlook.pst and archive.pst. About 5 GB each.
The attachments must be stored within the .pst, but there's no way (for me) to get to them. Only using Outlook - but then they're all attached to their email-parent. No folder, no list.

when you have no crash, you can see the pathname of the file

Problem is, I ALWAYS have the crash since this problem started.
I doubleclick the attachment (or right mouse > open), the file appears in XnView for a split second, and shuts down. Same in old mails, which opend properly then. I tried to catch the open XnView window during that split second via a screenshot, but in the screenshot I only get a total black in the area where the XnView window had been.
Another new information: I tried to open jpg-attachments from the archive, and the phenomenon is the same. Attachments in the archive must be in a different location than attachments in the current outlook.pst. So, in BOTH .pst-files the same problem must have been introduced at about the same time. Says me, who has little experience beyond the PC's surface.

That's a puzzler!
I hope you can keep up your patience - I'll show you what I tried and what I achieved in 6 screenshots.
1)
This I get when opening a jpg file in outlook (Xnview is my standard program for opening .jpg). Sometimes it closes immediately, sometimes I get to shut the crashed program myself:

I set jpg standard App back to default - Windows foto. There's no path to find:

Checking the given location, sorted by date: It occurs to me that they're by far not all the attachements I got during the covered period; "our" file is marked. The time given is the time I opened it. The email had been received 30 min before.

Experiment: where would I find an old attachment? I chose one from 2018:

You see? It has got the same path! How's that possible?

So, here we are: the 2018 attachment is in the same folder like the very new one, and it has the date of the moment I opened it. On the other hand, there must be thousands of attachments in my emails which are not shown here. You'll certainly know what to make of it. I think when I open an attachment, outlook places it in this "INet cache/Content.Outlook/UDPLT49Z" folder. It is the ONLY folder in Content.Outlook.
Ah, and they all crash when opened from this folder as well.

So it seems that a file from this folder make the crash? Could you move some of the files in a temporary folder?
