Application is unresponsive when browsing network share
I am using the XnViewMP on Mac.
I have an smb:// share which is connected through Wi-Fi network. It works reasonably fast and can be browsed and viewed with file management tools.
When navigating to the network share in the XnView browser, the application becomes unresponsive. The mouse pointer turns into spectre circle and the app freezes. On the NAS device I can see network and disk lights flashing, meaning the app is reading something through network. After a while (5 min or so) the freeze releases, but when I try to continue browsing, it resumes. Just scrolling the tree on the left makes it hang (even without clicking on folders), and the scrolling itself is very laggy and fitful.
I assumed that it was cataloging that could contribute to this sort of behaviour so I removed "thumbnail for the whole folder" checkbox and switched the browser into list mode, but it did not help (or helped insignificantly). Also I downloaded another photo management software and it works reasonably well on the same network share (this is meant to indicate that the problem is not on the network side of things or my unique setup).
I have two MacBooks Pro of different generations with the same behaviour.
Any suggestions? Should I open a bug?

This post describes somewhat similar behaviour: viewtopic.php?f=82&t=42855&p=175036#p175036

Re: The application is unresponsive when browsing a network share
Well, there are just ~300 directories on the top level. If you mean subdirs too, then yes, many... Why?

If you mean the top-level folder, there is only 1 file (JPEG photo).

Pierre, what exactly setting are you referring to? I mentioned one in the initial post. If you meant another one, could you please post the exact name and location in settings?

Unchecked the folder box, but it did not help unfortunately, same symptoms...
Other suggestions?

Any updates here? Maybe it is possible to enable some logging/tracing to find out what the application is doing?

So you have a smb shared folder with 300 subfolders, you have the delay when accessing this folder, right?greatvovan wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 9:50 pm Any updates here? Maybe it is possible to enable some logging/tracing to find out what the application is doing?
Could you contact me by mail?
