Mouse side button to go back

Post by FKCapitalism »

Please allow this functionality:

- When clicking mouse side button back go back like when pressing Backspace,

- when clicking mouse side button forth button return to folder from which you ascended.

If extra mouse buttons (beyond the standard two) were allowed to be set/used, in Settings-Interface-Shortcuts, then that would allow for this …and more.

+1 Configurable additional mouse buttons would be indeed handy. I'm not quite sure whether there's something like a standard for extra buttons (naming of buttons, position of buttons, ...).

They wouldn't have to have standard names. Being numbered, would suffice. If their position can be ascertained, that would be great …but not really necessary, for just allowing them to be used in Settings-Interface-Shortcuts. You just press the button, and that button gets set, whatever it's called.

That's indeed a good and easy way.

Until now, all mouse button configuration can be found in setings "Interface | Mouse". These settings could be enhanced with custom entries which allow for combining an arbitrary action with any extra mouse button plus modifier key (Ctrl, Shift, Alt). This would be very similar to the short cut configuration except that it's mouse configuration, here. (Note: I'm not sure whether left and right mouse button should be configurable, too. If yes, there should be a button "Reset to defaults" to ensure that you can easily fix a misconfiguration.)

There should always be a "Reset to defaults" …and the shortcuts-tab has that.
That said, I think it may well be best to keep the standard buttons/wheel that are in Interface-Mouse, the way they are
…but let any further buttons, be assignable in Interface-Shortcuts, just like any keyboard key. (and if so, Interface-Mouse should have a text saying that further keys are assignable in Interface-Shortcuts, and Interface-Shortcuts should also have a text saying that extra mouse buttons are assignable there)
