Hello, I intend this message to be constructive criticism, but I don't know if I will succeed.
After giving a lot of thought to my problem with XNviewMP in Linux and looking for similar incidents in the XNview forum, I have realised that it seems that Linux users, and specifically with KDE Plasma, are not given the same help as users of other desktops.
I can understand that having several desktops in Linux, it is complicated to solve them all, but it is very curious to note that the person who answers the messages in the forum, does not show the slightest interest in solving the incident. It can be seen in:
viewtopic.php?f=82&t=42236&p=171535&hil ... ed#p171535
Answer: "i've tried on ubuntu, and no problem".
viewtopic.php?f=62&t=42842&p=176328#p176328
Answer: "i don't know, i have no problem with xfce or gnome".
and full stop. Despite the fact that in the formulation of the issue the users provide quite a lot of information that may be useful, the person responding does not ask for any information that may be useful in resolving the issue, such as launching the program from the console, requesting the log file, etc.
The result is that the user is left with a response from XNview that does not solve the problem. Should all Linux users use Ubuntu, XCFE or GNome to get help?
Thanks for reading me

Re: I am disappointed with the forum support
The problem is that all XnView software ever created is the work of one developer, Pierre, who provides it at no cost for personal use, and also provides as much support as it is practical for him as sole developer to provide... Any other support on the forum is provided by a small number of volunteers.
The problem with Linux versions, as you say, is that there are so many distributions that providing detailed support for some issues that arise is not really practical. I am a Linux user myself now.

I apologize for my answers a little short, but it's a lot of work to check for every linux distribution or desktops. The 'Open with' problem is related to Qt version too...rafael.linux.user wrote: Tue Mar 15, 2022 2:20 pm The result is that the user is left with a response from XNview that does not solve the problem. Pierre.

It's not really your reply, it's the "leaving up in the air" any attempt to resolve the issue. Most of us users want to help, but as mere users, we don't know how unless we are asked the right questions.xnview wrote: Tue Mar 15, 2022 4:06 pmI apologize for my answers a little short, but it's a lot of work to check for every linux distribution or desktops. As I said, I understand the problem of different versions of Linux desktops, but I didn't know that Pierre was the one person in charge of development.
We, the users, can only provide the information required by the developer in case it is useful, but if we are not asked for any information, it is understood that they are not going to try to find out the problem and therefore the user simply cannot use the application.
Wouldn't it be interesting to make it open source so that other people could help? Just a suggestion.
